Parents of newborns want the reassurance of a video baby monitor without a shelf of single-purpose gadgets or a cloud service quietly uploading footage of their nursery. Most app-based monitors force an account, route video through remote servers, or charge for storage. The hard part is delivering a reliable, low-latency A/V stream directly between two consumer phones on a home router, while keeping first-time setup fast enough that a sleep-deprived parent can finish it in one sitting.
We built QoHush as a two-role app that pairs devices locally by scanning a QR code, keeping all video and audio on the family’s own Wi-Fi rather than any backend. The product is deliberately zero-onboarding: it works the moment it installs, with no account creation, and the whole pairing flow is designed to complete in about sixty seconds. Monetization is a light subscription rather than a hardware upsell or a data play.
The shipped app runs one device as the baby station and the other as the parent viewer, paired in under a minute via QR code with no login. Parents get live nursery video, real-time audio with adjustable noise sensitivity for light or deep sleepers, and at-a-glance battery status of the baby station. To soothe from another room, QoHush adds push-to-talk, built-in lullabies, and a remotely toggled night light, plus photo and clip capture for quiet moments. Smart alerts fire the second the baby stirs, and the connection re-establishes automatically after a Wi-Fi blip. It is live on the App Store and Google Play as a free download with an optional Nest subscription, running on iPhone and iPad (iOS 15 and later) and on Android phones and tablets.
